Registered Trademark – Springs Hosting
On January 10, 2012, Springs Hosting received the registered trademark for service mark Springs Hosting. The service mark is registered for 10 years with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
“While this should have probably been done some time ago, it’s better late than never,” said Jeremy Keefe, CIO at Springs Hosting. “The primary reason for a registered trademark is to protect the brand name so that our customers can be assured that they are doing business with the one and only Springs Hosting rather than someone imitating the company brand.”
Why should you get a registered trademark for your business?
Registering your mark allows you to stop anyone who attempts to use or register a similar mark. A registered national trademark holder has priority nationwide when there are any conflicts between businesses with the same or similar names. Five years after a registration, a trademark automatically becomes incontestable, eliminating nearly any trademark infringement defense.
If someone tries to register a domain name that infringes on your trademark, you may be able to shut down the website based on your trademark registration. This benefit makes trademarks important for internet businesses where confusing names could direct traffic away from your website.
